Barcelona may have a record breaking buyout clause in the contract of Lionel Messi, but according to their director, Pancho Schroder, it may not be enough to keep the player.
That’s because he thinks there are some clubs with so much money now that they can buy pretty much anyone they want – and used Neymar as an example, with his clause of course being massive and many people assuming it would never be breached.
He noted things are getting out of hand and that the club may be looking at even bigger offers for their star men in the future.
He was speaking at a Finance in Sport event in London, and Schroder told Sky Sports News: “We set up a clause which we think is enough to have Messi retire at FC Barcelona.
“But having said that, we thought a year ago that the clause for Neymar was also good enough to retain the player, and that proved last summer not to be the case.
“Looking at the future, I think, is difficult, but I don’t have a crystal ball and these days things are getting a little bit crazy.”
Barcelona know all about having the best of the best on their books, and while stars have come and gone, Lionel Messi has remained, and shown everyone just how incredible he is over and over again.
PSG are once again looking to add to their squad this summer after another Champions League fail, but even if they did, the chances of Messi actually wanting to leave Barcelona and join them would be remote indeed given his love and loyalty when it comes to the club.
